November 28, 2012 Insomnia Probably Won't Do With Ratchet & Clank November 28, 2012 - Don't You Say? with a fork for a tower defense game.

The PlayStation Network title features the main characters and sometimes-friend Captain Qwark defending three of the Polaris planets from an invasion by a group of mercenaries called the Grungarians. Players must explore areas to find weapons and ammunition to repel waves of enemies sent to attack the home.

"Full Front Assault is as big as Quest for Booty, but we feel it encourages exploration more than any previous Ratchet and Clank title," said production director Shaun McCabe.

A demo at a Sony event this week found me in the world of Ebaro, guiding Ratchet through building a series of traps. The wave icon on the right side of the screen shows when the enemy is approaching, their distance, and their speed of movement. Ratchet - or Clank or Qwark, which players can only use one at a time in battle mode - has a variety of weapons at his disposal, including his signature Omniwrench. Players must place strategic items such as flamers, bombs and time-delayed mines to take out the enemy. Classic weapons from previous games also make an appearance, such as the Groovitron - a bomb that shatters a disco ball in the air and releases a gas that makes enemies dance non-stop until they drop.

"At first we started with a large open field where players would hunt for weapons," McCabe said. "We explored a lot of mechanics and finally settled on a tower defense campaign. It's totally on point - everyone is playing Orcs Must Die! and Dungeon Defenders."

Full Front Attack introduces some new features as well. A new Morph Mine will turn enemies into sheep when fired. The sheep then join the fight on the player's side and shoot their opponents with fire.

Insomniac Games has also added a competitive mode, which turns the single-player campaign into a head-to-head race to defeat enemies. "We wanted to go back and forth from Ratchet: Deadlocked, and we thought the tower defense competition was a new way to do it," McCabe said.

Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault Dated For November

In addition to Total Attack this fall, Insomniac released The Ratchet & Clank Trilogy in Europe, a set of HD remasters of Ratchet & Clank, Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando, and Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal. The collection will be available in North America on August 28.

"People still love the Ratchet & Clank experience and fans love new games, but a new game takes a long time to make," McCabe said. "We have Full Frontal coming out, which is about the size and style of Quest for Booty, but they still want the original experience." McCabe told the team at Insomniac, re-releasing PlayStation 2 games in HD for PS3 - as Jak and Daxter got later this year and Sly Cooper in 2010 - "just made sense."
