Bodyguard 380 Review - I recently received an email from a man seeking advice on purchasing a Bodyguard 380 pistol for his wife's personal protection. She didn't know anything about firearms, but she wanted something that was easy to carry and slim enough to fit in her purse. I remember contacting my friend Marc "Six" Jacobs in 2012 and I asked if he would write a review for the Smith & Wesson Bodyguard 380. I didn't know much about this particular gun so I thought it was the best Let an expert judge Below is his review
A friend called me the other day and asked if I would take a moment to write a review of the Smith & Wesson Bodyguard 380. As a safety expert and firearms instructor, I laughed and said, “Harlan, you know I don't " I shoot the starter gun. "You've never seen a gun you didn't want to shoot," he then replied. "You're right, give me a week and I'll get back to you," I said.
Bodyguard 380 Review
My everyday weapon is usually a compact or full size .45 ACP or 9mm subcompact when I want to travel light. I won't get into a caliber battle because accuracy should always trump caliber size, and in quarterback battles often your tactics will save you more than caliber size or shooting.
Why The Smith & Wesson M&p Bodyguard .380 Is Tough To Beat
However, I am a person who carries the largest caliber they can shoot accurately. Unfortunately, most people are not well trained, and in handgun encounters, there will rarely be a well-trained operator who can handle their business in one shot.
I saw the "Bodyguard 380" ad but never took the time to look into it as I haven't been a big fan of pocket guns in the past.
However, I firmly believe that the situation should always dictate tactics and tools There is also a dedicated area for pocket pistols
Personally, I think pocket pistols work best as secondary and tertiary tools Most have poor sight, underdeveloped grip and are often underpowered Perhaps the biggest challenge I see with them is how they are marketed I see many people who trying to buy it as a primary weapon for new shooters Many people mistakenly believe that because they are small in both size and caliber, they will be easy to shoot and will not feel recoil.
Smith & Wesson Bodyguard
Effective recoil management starts with a good grip Because most people buy firearms and don't receive proper professional training, they often suffer from poor fundamentals, whether it's incorrect grips or poor sight alignment. One rarely learns how to wield such an instrument
When I went to my local gun store to take a closer look at the Bodyguard 380, I was surprised to see so many great features in such a small package.
The Bodyguard 380 has a polymer frame with a stainless steel barrel and slide. It is also equipped with a manual finger guard, slide stop, external takedown lever and load chamber indicator.
It has a usable raised adjustable stainless steel sight (dovetail cut) and an integrated vertical axis laser sight with two-hand laser controls (steady on, pulsing, off). The laser has a battery saver function that automatically shuts off after 5 minutes.

It's Just a Double-Action, Percussion-Action Semi-Auto Pistol Although the double-action can help reduce accidental firing, some of the new shooters I surveyed felt uncomfortable with long pulls on the trigger. The trigger pull seems to be around 8 - 9 lbs. However, effective handling of a long double action trigger is something that can be easily done with a few more lessons. It also has a steel guide rod
The bottom of the Bodyguard 380 filler has an extended ring that makes the grip more ergonomic.
The bodyguard performed well in the 380 range The sighting system was impressive and what I expected from a sub-inch barrel in a polymer frame. Gun will fire with magazine removed Slide also locks in empty magazine
While I'm not ready to make the Dehjivi 380 my everyday weapon, I'll take it to the top of the pocket pistol lineup. The MSRP of $399 retail is a good price for the features built into the gun and explains why dealers are having a hard time keeping them on the shelves.
Quick Shots] M&p Bodyguard .380: The Single Stack J Frame
The Bodyguard 380 is better suited for ultra-concealment or secondary use In my opinion, this is not a starter gun and works best in the hands of an experienced shooter
The lightness, small frame, and short scope radius are not features that lend themselves to novice or trained shooters. With the right operator or bodyguard, 380 training can complement your defensive capabilities

Small pocket pistols are now all the rage (Come to think of it, they became popular because they were small enough to fit in a pocket). In any case, many manufacturers make small pistols that provide an impact that can be very powerful behind and in front of the muzzle. As bullets and ballistics technology advanced, the .380 also gained popularity. As I noted in my recent review of the Ruger LCP .380, some .380 ammo beats the .38 in terms of velocity and power, right on the heels of the honor. So it's a little doubtful that many people, myself included, would throw a small .380 (in its pocket holster) in a pants pocket when you don't want or can't carry a big gun. Sure, the .380 Ambush isn't the best in terms of concealed carry, but it sure is great. (It was good enough to start the First World War - you can read about it here). Also, many European police departments have used it as a service round for decades A small round will do the job if properly placed on target
S&w Bodyguard 380
The Smith & Wesson (S&W) M&P line has a long and storied history. The name originated in 1899 when S&W applied it to a .38 Special revolver. Come to think of it, that year the 38 Special came about as a result of the anemic underperformance of Long Colt's star .38 in the Philippines during the rebellion there. Thus was born a classic Now, however, the revolver was designed to be used by military and police units The Army received many of these wheel guns, which performed better than the Long Colt round. For the rest of the M&P story, you can read my history of the brand here
The .380 Bodyguard pistol was introduced in 2011 and looked a lot like the pistols we have now, except for some engraved slides – the âM&Pâ was missing. In 2014, S&W rectified this situation by officially transitioning the Bodyguard into the M&P family. As for variations between models, you can get one with or without fingerprint security or magenta laser tracking. (The original bodyguard carried a laser made by Insight).
The gun is too small - at least for me - two fingers on top - suggestion I didn't just fall off a turnip truck - I know Elmer Keith has small two finger guns made in various calibers today to fill a big hat. . These guns are popular for the reasons I mentioned above – they're easy to carry and sure are awesome. Many people carry a .22 semi-auto, which will be the same size as this bodyguard. In my opinion, I believe in carrying the gun that offers the most âoomphâ without going too far in the blast and recoil departments - to make sure that I hit what I aim for. But many prefer the .22 Without turning this into a .22-vs-380 bat match, I'll leave it at that - the Bodyguard carries well and will definitely attract the attention of the bad guys.
Now might be a good place to list the specs of the gun I took them from the S&W website and my measurements

This little 12-ouncer kicks ass There - I said it No wonder this little guy has such attention-grabbing appeal - he doesn't even weigh a pound, only allows two fingers around him and a lot of skin in the handle. These factors make it a small gun for people with small hands I have other small guns
