When I went to my local gun store to take a closer look at the Bodyguard 380, I was surprised to see so many great features in such a small package.

The Bodyguard 380 has a polymer frame with a stainless steel barrel and slide. It is also equipped with a manual finger guard, slide stop, external takedown lever and load chamber indicator.

It has a usable raised adjustable stainless steel sight (dovetail cut) and an integrated vertical axis laser sight with two-hand laser controls (steady on, pulsing, off). The laser has a battery saver function that automatically shuts off after 5 minutes.

Small pocket pistols are now all the rage (Come to think of it, they became popular because they were small enough to fit in a pocket). In any case, many manufacturers make small pistols that provide an impact that can be very powerful behind and in front of the muzzle. As bullets and ballistics technology advanced, the .380 also gained popularity. As I noted in my recent review of the Ruger LCP .380, some .380 ammo beats the .38 in terms of velocity and power, right on the heels of the honor. So it's a little doubtful that many people, myself included, would throw a small .380 (in its pocket holster) in a pants pocket when you don't want or can't carry a big gun. The Smith & Wesson (S&W) M&P line has a long and storied history. The name originated in 1899 when S&W applied it to a .38 Special revolver.
